Movement for the Abolition of War

“Establishing lasting peace is the work of education. All politics can do is keep us out of war.” - Maria Montessori

Who Are We?

  • a civil society movement which challenges popular thinking about the acceptability of war, and raises awareness of constructive alternatives
  • non-partisan, of all political and religious persuasions - or none
  • organised and run entirely by volunteers

We were formed in 2001, following the Hague Appeal for Peace in 1999.

Our founder president was Professor Sir Joseph Rotblat FRS, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate; our founder chair was Bruce Kent.

Our current president is Professor Robert Hinde; our vice-presidents are Martin Bell OBE, Bruce Kent and Susannah York.

We work closely with the International Peace Bureau in Geneva.
